Lava is a small hamlet in Kalimpong subdivision, 30 km away from Kalimpong city. Located at a height of 7,200 ft, It falls among the small list of places in West Bengal that receives snowfall in the winter months. Lava is also the gateway to Virgin Neora valley national park from Kalimpong. The entire way to Lava gives a splendid view of the alpines- Birch, Fir, Pine, and Oaks. The forests provide tourists the pleasure of having a picnic, trekking, and bird watching.  This place has gradually become one of the favorite destinations of North Bengal. Lava falls on the silk route, with wide roads and picturesque landscape lava provides scenic beauty in every turn to its tourist.

Lava has a dynamic climatic condition. The temperature falls below zero degrees in winter and raises up to 30 degrees in summer.

Rishop

Rishop is a hamlet located in the Kalimpong division of West Bengal, India. Also known as Rishyap, it is situated at a height of 8200 feet above sea level.

The village is around 10 km from Lava. There is a 5km trek rout from the forest department bungalows of Lava to Rishop. Guides and sherpas are available for the trek as well. Rishop gives a splendid view of the majestic Kanchenjunga range. Travelers can visit Tiffindara to witness a wonderful sunrise.

The temperature here during summer stays between 22 – 8 degrees and in winter around 3 degrees.

Lolegaon

When In Darjeeling district one cannot miss the opportunity of visiting the small serene hamlet in the Kalimpong subdivision. Lolegaon also locally known as kaffer is undoubtedly nature’s paradise on its own. It provides its visitors with picturesque landscape, lush green forests, and serenity to die for. In the morning the peaks of Kanchenjunga are visible clearly from this place. It is 24 km from lava at a height of 1675ft above sea level.

Lolegaon has a moderate climate with the temperature rising to 32 degrees in summer and falling to 12 degrees in winter. The best time to visit Lolegaon/Kaffer is from September to February.

• From NJP or Bagdogra airport till Lava cabs will cost around Rs 3500 (Approx).
• Homestays and hotels along with food will cost around Rs.1500 per person per night. There are a few cheaper hotels as well.
• Traveling to Rishop from Lava will cost around Rs 600-800( Approx).
• A cab from rishop to lolegaon will cost around Rs 3800-4000
• A cab from Lolegaon to NJP or Bagdogra airport will charge around Rs 3000
